For some reason other than tailfins
and chrome,
the first thing you always seem to notice on stylish cars from
the 50’s and early 60’s are their hubcaps. Jack said the story with
those is that two years ago he lost one somewhere on the freeway. "I
went back and retraced my route but couldn’t find it, and no way to
get one like it, so I just ordered some out of a JC Whitney catalog."
318 cid wide-block
The odometer may have gone around a couple of times to zero but the
318 engine still runs smooth and strong. He had the motor rebuilt a
few years ago. Turns out, Huntoon’s classic is a little rarer than
that of your average 1960 Dodge because, there’s a good chance it
was only the Phoenix models that were built in Australia that came
out with the potent wide-block 318 engine after all.
"My wife [Alexandra] said that
somebody called yesterday and was arguing with her whether it was a
318 engine or not, according to him, they didn’t make em’ then. But
that’s what it is." Huntoon said. "You know the manual that came
with it says it’s a 318 and when the engine was overhauled, parts
were ordered for a 318."
No rust here
What lies underneath always tells the whole story. For example:
About ten years ago Jack had Aloha Upholstery redo the seat, carpet
and headliner. When he and his wife went back to pick up the car the
folks at the upholstery shop were amazed at what they didn’t see and
kept saying, "when we took up the carpet up, no rust!"
So thanks to Jack Huntoon, here’s your
chance to buy a very special and meaningful piece of well kept
automobile history. Like his ad stated, "I just want someone to take
care of her..."
