Yep, I've re-shuffled the website
links along the left side of the homepage, added a few new ones and
dropped some that weren’t getting much attention. Now we lead off
with our sponsor's link (Ron's) and offer up the two most popular
sites - NHRA and NASCAR right up top. The fun 'publications' and
local racing organizations' links are next, followed by some clubs
and other odd sites. If you have one you think we should add, just
send it along and I'll check it out.
If you've been following the off-season NASCAR.com chatter, you know
that Indycar's Danica Patrick will be running a limited NASCAR
schedule this year in the Nationwide Series with Dale Earnhardt,
Jr's race team. There should be huge ratings for her premier event
at the Daytona ARCA race Feb. 6. I'll sure be watchin'.
The National Hot Rod Association was the original drag racing
sanctioning body fifty-something years ago and is clearly the class
act and top show on the quartermile. Its season kicks off Feb. 11-14
with the Pomona Winternationals.
The big off-season news on NHRA's website was the retirement of
legend Don 'The Snake' Prudhomme. After 48 years as a champion in
both fuelers and floppers he has closed up shop this year ~ leaving
a big hole in our active 'heroes' list. Yes, it was a lack of
sponsorship for his fuel dragster team and driver Spencer Massey,
who was just named ‘rookie-of-the-year’ for last season.
When National Dragster's Phil Bugress asked Snake if this was really
it, he replied, "Yes, the door’s closed... but the doorbell still
works."
WEBSITE OF THE MONTH
Jimmy Shine has a lot of fun. As part of the SoCal Speed Shop team
he's in the middle of the California hot rod biz, as well as a
regular surfer and biker. His site has sweet photo galleries of
rods, customs and bikes he’s built and links to even more talented
folks who have helped him over the years. If you like old tin and
raw horsepower served without a lot of glitz, you'll like:

While we're talking about old hot
rods, I can't resist wandering back to another great website ~ the
Jalopy Journal. I know, I plugged them last month, but they continue
to amaze me with great old photos, stories and vids of rare rodding
footage. It seems there's new old stuff popping up all the time.
www.jalopyjournal.com
Click back to their January 15th
connection for a 1947 film classic: The Devil on Wheels. Six car
'drags' in dirt simple hiboy roadsters out in the San Fernando
Valley. Truly laughable dialog but totally true images of America's
first hot rods. No chrome, no candy paint, no safety equipment.
Loud, dangerous and disrespectful. Just what we were hoping for!
The 1967 Corvette Stingray coupe with
the rear split window (Above photo) was the highwater mark from Chevy for many. If
you're in that crowd, you're gonna love this take on a possible 2011
version. <Click da pic for more...
I suppose you just toss those old beer
cans out - or maybe you're a good scout and recycle 'em? Well, a
bloke name Sandy Sanderson in New Zealand has created some killer
autoart from his old empties. <Click to check 'em out!
And that will do it for this month.
See you right back here on March 1st!
Aloha ~ PM
